The Bloor/Gladstone library is another very important and fascinating attraction of my neighborhood.
At the old library was recently added a new part all in glass, it makes a really nice effect seen from the outside. There are always a lot of people that go to the library, to study, to read or to surf the Internet. It is very good to know that people are still capable of understanding the importance and the meaning of having a place like this where to go.

Working Women Community Centre
In My neighborhood there is an organization that works to help women that have immigrated to Canada. Marcie Ponte, who has been working at the Working Women Community Centre as the executive director for 13 years and has been involved in it since the beginning of the project, answered some of the questions i had about the centre. I asked what kind of an organization it was and she said that Working Women Community Centre is a charitable
non-profit agency that has been helping immigrant women and their families since
1976. I also asked what kind of services it provided and her answer was that it provides services such as:
*Tutoring /Mentoring programs for children of Portuguese and Spanish descent who are at risk of failing or dropping out of school
* Community engagement and leadership development programs
* Employment preparation programs for newcomers and for people who are on Ontario Works

Not much happens in the neighborhood, but sometimes you hear about accidents and houses catching on fire. On june 27th 2011, an apartment caught on fire and two seniors were treated for smoke inhalation. The apartment number was 1140 Bloor Street near Dufferin Street. One person was treated at the scene and another was sent to the hospital as a precaution. While on September 21st 2011, a single car crush sent a woman to the hospital, the fact took place in the parking garage of Dufferin Mall, in the Bloor and Dufferin area. These are some of the facts that took place in my neighborhood and that happened not long ago. Luckily we don't hear these kind of news that often.

Not only shopping!
On Bloor Street the attractions don't end with the stores, like every street even in the Bloor and Dufferin area there is a Tim Hortons. The small coffee shop that has improved and now has an ice cream area too.
There is also another distinctive place on the street, it's called Roma and it's always full of people. The restaurant is located right in front of the Tim Hortons.
After a nice meal why not go for a coffee?

History and geography of Bloor Street
Bloor Street is a major east-west residential and commercial thoroughfare in Toronto. Bloor Street runs from the The Prince Edward Viaduct westward into Mississauga, where it ends at Central Parkway. East of the viaduct, Danforth Avenue continues along the same right-of-way. The street, approximately 25 kilometres long, contains a significant cross-sample of Toronto's ethnic communities.
Bloor Street is often conceptualized as a "diving line" between downtown and midtown Toronto.
The street is named after Joseph Bloor a brewer and land speculator of this area in the 19th century, who founded the village of Yorkville in 1830.
Bloor Street runs through a diverse series of neighborhoods such as The Annex, Koreatown, Dufferin Grove, Brockton, Roncesvalles, High Park and Runnymede. It generally retains its commercial character, and serves as the main shopping area for most of these communities.
